A motorcyclist who led officers on a high-speed pursuit was injured after crashing head-on into a patrol vehicle, Wednesday night.
A motorcyclist crashed head-on with a CHP patrol car after leading police on a high-speed chase Wednesday night just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday April 29, 2020. A California Highway Patrol’s Westminster officer attempted to stop a green and red Kawasaki motorcycle.
The motorcyclist allegedly initiated a police stop after committing a traffic offense, and then led officers on a police pursuit that reached speeds in excess of 100 MPH and wrong-way driving and using sidewalks to attempt to evade police.
The pursuit traveled north on the I-5 Freeway (Santa Ana Freeway) into Anaheim, and the suspect exited the freeway and fled into a residential neighborhood.
Additional police officers began responding to the residential area when the motorcyclist crashed head-on into a patrol vehicle about 1. mile from the I-5 exit. The motorcyclist was ejected from the motorcycle near the intersection of North Bluegrass Street and West Romneya Drive about 10:31 PM.
The motorcyclist was prone on the street and handcuffed while police waited for Anaheim firefighter/paramedics to arrive.
Firefighter/paramedics transported the suspect, who appeared to be seriously injured, according to ONSCENE TV.
The streets near the crash scene were closed for an extended crash investigation.
