Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:03 am. Sunday July 29, 2018 to a report of a head-on crash on South Doty Avenue near 120th Street in the Pullman Industrial Quarter neighborhood.
Police and firefighters on arrival discovered a high-speed, head-on collision involving a Subaru and Chrysler. Engine 80’s crew on arrival reported two cars involved in a crash with four patients, and requested requested an EMS Plan 1 by 12:06 a.m. Crews on scene also requested a pin-in response.
The driver and a 16 year-old passenger of the Subaru were transported to Level I Trauma Center University of Chicago Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Sunday after officials released the identity of the victims as Portage, Indiana residents Michael Clark, age 17; and Zachery Tomak, age 16.
A 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman passenger in the Chrysler were transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where they were listed in critical condition.
Police report that an 18-year-old and his 16-year-old passenger were speeding northbound on South Doty near 120th Street in the Pullman Industrial Quarter neighborhood when their Subaru hit the Chrysler head-on around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Police say while the area is known for drag racing. Initially, there was no evidence that the cars were racing when they crashed.
The Chicago Police Department Major Accidents Unit is investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
A second crash occurred on or near the expressway while firefighters were working at the Doty Avenue crash.
