One-Vehicle Rollover Crash Near Saunders Rd and Riverwoods Rd, Traps Driver and Causes Power Outage

Riverwoods police and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods firefighter/paramedics and Deerfield-Bannockburn firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:25 a.m. Friday December 1, 2017 near 845 Saunders Road near the Riverwoods Police station and near the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD fire station. One person was injured in the single-vehicle rollover crash, which was also located about one-half mile west of the Tri-State Tollway and Deerfield Road interchange. Friday morning in north suburban Riverwoods.

The crash involved a hazard with a broken utility pole, and ComEd was immediately called to the scene. A power outage was also reported in the area.

The vehicle rollover crash occurred about 6:15 a.m. The vehicle collided with a telephone pole and turned on it’s side — almost upside down — near Saunders Road and Riverwoods Road. The crash might not have been immediately discovered, and the driver was trapped inside the vehicle. The force of the crash snapped a main wood utility pole, causing the upper part of the pole to be suspended by the power lines. A road sign for Saunders Road and a stop sign were also destroyed.

The driver, a male patient, was extricated from the vehicle by 6:42 a.m., and was transported to a hospital by Lincolnshire-Riverwoods firefighter/paramedics. His injuries did not initially appear to be life threatening.
