LAFD operations at a four story commercial-industrial building with heavy smoke and fire showing from the top floor.
Los Angeles firefighters responded about 1:30 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2016 to a fire in a 4-story commercial warehouse on Washington Boulevard near San Pedro Street in L.A.’s Fashion District.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, but reportedly contained textile type materials for clothing.
Firefighting involving a drop bags operation, which involves throwing ropes down to the street from an upper floor to quickly get hose lines to the fire floor — wasn’t feasible at this fire. Firefighters had to drag hose up to the upper floor.
Crew were also unable to ventilate the roof because it is constructed of concrete.
Downtown Los Angeles Firefighters, 9’s & 10’s, were first on scene.
LAFD firefighters did quickly attempt to “drop-bag”
The fire in the deco style factory-loft building was knocked down with hand lines in less than an hour. Metro Rail on Washington Boulevard was shut down in both directions during firefighting operations.
There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
