Fully-involved garbage truck fire with exploding tires, and burning cable lines and possibly electric lines above the truck.
According to Dan Bell, spokesman for the City of Glendale, the driver noticed that there was a fire in the hopper of the trash truck. He jumped out, and saw that flames had engulfed the back of the truck. They then moved forward to front of the truck.
The truck and two private vehicles were lost in the incident. An investigation is underway.
Glendale firefighters responded about 9:45 a.m. Monday September 25, 2017 to a report of a garbage truck fire in the block of 3100 of Montrose Avenue. A truck driver for the City of Glendale noticed a small fire under the body of his garbage truck. He immediately stopped the truck and attempted to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher and called 9-1-1. Glendale police and firefighters responded to find the truck fully involved with fire. Several tires exploded before they arrived, and at least one exploded while they were on the scene. Two passenger vehicles were also damaged; no one was reported injured.
The fire was extinguished within an hour.
