The Los Angeles Fire Department issued an official preliminary summary report by the LAFD Serious Incident Review Team regarding the death of LAFD Firefighter III Kelly Wong on Monday, June 5, 2017, following injury he sustained in an on-duty training evolution on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in downtown Los Angeles.
The 29-year-old Los Angeles Fire Department firefighter died Monday, June 6, 2017, two days after he fell from an aerial ladder during a training exercise in downtown Los Angeles.
Wong, who suffered numerous blunt-force trauma injuries, was immediately treated by his fellow firefighters at the scene, transported to a nearby trauma center, and initially listed in critical condition.
A procession was held as Wong’s body was transported from the hospital to be laid to rest Monday. Wong’s widow, Danielle, and his infant son Colton were seen being comforted by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti while surrounded by firefighters.
An American flag was held aloft by the aerial ladders of two LAFD engine trucks as Wong’s body was moved.
The scene after a firefighter was transported to nearby trauma center, and was listed in critical condition after falling from a ladder during a training exercise. The accident happened around 9:40 AM near 4th and Main in Downtown LA.
