Bullfighter Victor Barrio fatally gored in an eastern Teruel, Spain, the first professional matador to be killed in the ring in Spain in more than three decades.
Bullfighter Victor Barrio was pierced near the right armpit and into his chest. He suffered a suffered a ruptured thoracic artery. The bullfighter died within minutes.
The medical bulletin issued by the medical services of the bullring of Teruel, signed by the surgeon of Teruel Utrillas arena Ana Cristina Martinez included the following statement [translated to English]:
“I certify the death of the bullfighter Victor Barrio Hernanz, at 20.25 hours, after suffering gored in the right chest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation with endotracheal intubation is performed. Right thoracotomy is performed, appreciating perforation of the right lung, ruptured thoracic aortic dissection back to left chest.
A man in a village bull run also died and two men were gored at the Pamplona festival in Pamplona, Spain — about 200 miles north of Teruel.
