VIDEO: Thick black smoke and flames with explosions erupted from a substation in Waldwick , New Jersey Sunday.
Firefighters from multiple communities responded to Waldwick, New Jersey when a substation fire began with explosions and thick black smoke. some explosions caused houses to shake.
About 40 people were evacuated from their homes, and some residents were told to stay inside. The fire was extinguished with the use of foam at about 7:15 p.m. The fire burned thousands of gallons of mineral oil, which is used as a coolant for the electrical equipment.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury.
