Technical Rescue High Angle Rescue for roller coaster stopped on track at Six Flags Joker’s Jinx ride.
Police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:30 p.m. Saturday to a report that six four-passenger cars on the Joker’s Jinx ride had stalled about 75 feet at the top of the ride course. Nearly eight-stories high, 17 adults and 7 children were trapped on the stalled ride, Joker’s Jinx, at Six Flags in Prince George’s County.
Each person on the ride was secured with a safety harness by firefighters before they were transferred to the 105-foot fire department tower ladder. People were trapped for about 5 hours at the Largo, Maryland amusement park. Riders are arranged two-across in two rows in each four-passenger car that is part of a six-car train. There are two trains, but only one was reported stalled.

Firefighters climbed onto the ride about 30 feet down the track from the stranded cars and spoke with the riders by about 3:50 p.m, Rescuers began delivering water and umbrellas to protect people from the hot sun while planning the rescue operation. Two tower ladder trucks (Tower Ladder 5 and Tower Ladder 43) had their sticks up.
Twenty-four people were trapped at the top of the “Joker’s Jinx” at the Six Flags in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Prince George’s County Fire Chief explains the rescue that took five hours for firefighters to rescue the group. Jan Crawford reports.
Joker’s Jinx is located in the Gotham City section of the Six Flags America in Prince George’s County, Maryland park near Superman: Ride of Steel roller coaster and Whistlestop Park. The maximum height of the right is reported to be 78.8 feet.
The train stalled on a part of the track where it is only partially tilted. Luckily, the Joker’s Jinx was not upside-down as it can be at other sections of the track.
