KTLA reports on the water main break around UCLA’s campus that is flooding streets and other venues.
A huge water main break with a 30-foot geyser flooded Sunset Boulevard and the UCLA campus occurred about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The 3-foot diameter water main delivers 75,000 gallons per minute. The main is reported to be about 90 years old.
The UCLA Pauley Pavilion, renovated in 2012 at cost of $136 million, was reported to have had its floor covered with water before crews used water vacuums and squeegees to clear out the water.
Some people were stranded in high ground areas to avoid flooding. Fire equipment was staged carefully at a distance from the water main break in case of the possibility of a sinkhole developing.
