VIDEO: Firenado and Fierce Fires Advance from San Marcos Toward Escondido


Wildfires spread rapidly in California forcing thousands to evacuate. CNN’s Gary Tuchman reports.

Escondido residents in neighborhoods north and west of West Valley Parkway between Via Rancho Parkway and Highway 78 were given evacuation orders as two flanks of the Cocos wildfire spread east along the hillsides overlooking the city.


Firefighters struggle to contain wildfires from the that are encroaching on neighborhoods and schools.

Arson and bomb investigators are working to determine what caused the devastating San Diego County wildfires, and several people were interviewed at the scene of the Lakeside fire near Aurora Drive when it started just after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The Cocos fire began near Cocos Drive about 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities have urged citizens to call local the police if they have seen any suspicious activity. San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said “nothing is too small” to report.
