Ford E-350 Van Crossed Median
Preliminary investigation shows the Ford E-350 commercial work van, driven by a 51-year-old man of Round Lake Beach, was traveling southbound on Fairfield Road, north of Route 60. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford crossed the double-yellow-striped median into the northbound lanes. The Ford E350 first struck the driver’s side of a northbound Honda Odyssey, driven by a 42-year-old man of Hainesville. The Ford E-350 van then struck a northbound Kia Forte in a severe head-on collision
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday June 19, 2019 for the two victims killed in the Kia.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. Crash investigators will work to determine why the driver of the Ford crossed the median into the wrong lane of traffic.
Initially there was no confirmation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office regarding DUI assessment or pending tests for drugs.
The Speed Limit on Fairfield Road north of Route 60 is 55 MPH with a slow-down zone to 50 MPH near the Save a Pet driveway.
