Several businesses were without power Thursday afternoon after a squirrel was grounded out and killed after closing a circuit high atop a tall utility pole on Kennicott Avenue just north of Dundee Road. ComEd quickly sent a first response crew to re-route a power feed to restore power to as many people as possible. Another crew continued to work until about 7:30 p.m. repairing equipment that was damaged when the squirrel was electrocuted.
An employee at Kohl’s said the power was out 2-4 hours Thursday. Staff were having some problems with electronic cash registers freezing as late as 6:30 p.m., but the large department store was open Thursday evening.
