A second injured victim of a high-speed crash in Des Plaines was found about five hours after the crash occurred.
Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:21 AM Monday April 2, 2018 to a vehicle vs utility pole crash with a line down across the roadway at Rand Road and Ballard Road Des Plaines, Il. Engine 61’s crew on arrival by 2:25 a.m. reported a heavily entrapped vehicle.
A third ambulance was requested by 2:32 AM.
A white vehicle hit a utility pole with a line down across the roadway. Firefighter/paramedics extricated one female by about 2:40 a.m. The female patient in the vehicle told police and firefighter/paramedics that there were two people in the car with her. Police and firefighter/paramedics searched the area, including the woods, until about 3:20 a.m., but did not find any other victims.
UPDATE: Police found one other victim, and now believe there was only a second victim, not a third victim. The first female patient was found in a passenger seat before she was extricated. The second victim was a male, who was found by police in the parking lot behind Chicago Behavioral Hospital nearby the crash scene. The man was bleeding, wearing no shoes and no jacket in cold weather. Police believe the found man was the woman’s boyfriend, who was a driver, who left the scene. He could face charges. The woman was mistaken about the third victim, who was her father. He was dropped off at another location before the crash.
At least 200 ComEd customers were without power after the crash.
ComEd arrived on the scene about 2:59 a.m.
