VIDEOS/PHOTOS: Passenger Train Carrying GOP Members of Congress Crashes Near Crozet, Virginia

Firefighter/paramedics and police responded about 11:20 a.m. ET Wednesday January 31, 2018 to a truck vs passenger train crash west of Crozet, Virginia near Marymart Farm Road and Lanetown Road. The passenger train with the word AMTRAX on the side was carrying members of Congress to their legislative retreat in West Virginia crashed with dump truck Wednesday.

An aide confirmed that House Speaker Paul Ryan was on the train and is initially reporting no injuries.

Most of the staff and passengers on the train are initially reporting no injuries.

The Amtrak train, carrying members of Congress and their spouses and aides, left from Union Station in Washington earlier Wednesday.

An 18-wheeler semi-trailer dump truck carrying trash is reported to have crashed with the train. Initial reports indicate the train passenger cars did not derail, but the first three wheels of the engine leading the train were derails. There is possibly a fatality and a critical injury involving occupants of the dump truck.

Doctors that were immediately on the scene reported on person was dead at the scene, and one person was in need of airway management and emergency medical care.

Republican members of Congress were on their way for a retreat at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, starting Wednesday January 31 and ending Friday, February 2.

Vice President Mike Pence, who was not on the train, is scheduled to speak to members later Wednesday, and President Donald J. Trump is scheduled to address the event tomorrow.

Orchard Drive is reported to be closed until 3 PM.
