Wildfires Destroy Table Mountain Terrain in Capetown, South Africa

Hundreds of firefighters are working to contain a massive wildfire, which has been fanned by strong winds during hot summer temperatures. Another 250 firefighters were called for additional assistance on Monday.

The wildfire started Sunday, March 1, 2015 and engulfed the seaside town’s iconic Table Mountain terrain. Another second fire erupted on Monday.

One firefighter was treated for burns, and about 50 people in a retirement village were evaluated and/or treated for smoke inhalation.


Tokai Forest Tornado: Fire in Cape Town 2015 which started on Sunday evening in Muizenberg/Kalkbay and has since then spread across the mountain towards Noordhoek and Houtbay, covering an area of 3000 hectares.


eNCA Report: The Safety and Security directorate in the Mother City says that the Cape Town blazes could have been ignited by a cigarette butt thrown out of a car window. Hundreds of people including elderly frail care patients have been evacuated.
