Phoenix police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:00 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 when a couple got in an altercation with restaurant employees at Texas Roadhouse Restaurant near 75th Ave. & McDowell. The couple fled the restaurant without paying. Police squad cars pursued the vehicle — a black Chevy Camaro — for a short time after a Phoenix police helicopter spotted the vehicle from the air, but the pursuit was terminated when the offenders’ vehicle reached excessive, dangerous speeds. The vehicle then crashed at 67th Avenue and Van Buren. The crash killed the female driver and her male passenger in the other vehicle. At least one person was ejected in the crash.
In another report the driver of the second vehicle was killed and a passenger in the Camaro was killed. A woman, who was driving the Camaro, was transported to a hospital, and is listed in critical condition.
The accident investigation continued overnight, and closed the intersection until at least 8:30 a.m. Friday.
