Fugitive Featured on CNN’s “The Hunt” Charles Mozdir Killed in Shootout in New York

Two U.S. Marshals and one NYPD officer were injured when attempting to arrest Charles Mozdir.

On Monday, eight days after a CNN “The Hunt” show featuring Charles Mozdir first aired, the 32-year-old suspected sex offender died in a shootout in New York City as police surrounded him.

Mozdir was accused in a 2012 California child molestation case and failed to show up in court. He slipped away. Mozdir was living on cash, and using a good fake ID.

A New York police detective and two U.S. marshals entered the smoke shop in New York City where police believed Mozdir worked when the shootout began.

Mozdir started shooting at close range with a five-shot revolver. He shot five times. The detective was hit at least once in the abdomen. Two US Marshals were hit by bullets — each possibly in the arm.

Charles Mozdir was hit by return gunfire and killed.

Police commissioner says a fugitive that was profiled on CNN’s “The Hunt” was killed in a standoff with law enforcement.
